Apple Hill: wine, doggie treats, winter coats and apple cider

IMG_0068Last weekend Aaron and I took a day trip to Apple Hill. Harvest it finally over so we were so excited to spend a little one-on-one time together…oh, and Dexter too! Our morning started early as Aaron had to do a little work on our way out of town. While he was out and about working I watched the sunrise for the second morning in a row with Dex. He was more interested in watching Dad through the other window…but I enjoyed his company none the less. applehill1Not too long after the sun rose we headed up the hill to start our day. It was a quick trip and before we knew it we were in Placerville. The spots we wanted to hit weren’t open yet so we decided to have breakfast. And oh boy did we chose wisely! placervilleIf you happen to be in Placerville around breakfast time you HAVE to stop into Sweetie Pies! I’m not sure if it was the warm, homemade whole wheat bread served with fresh blackberry jam or maybe just the fact that we were back on an adventure again, but Aaron and I both agreed it was the best breakfast we had EVER had! It was in the works of being the best day ever. After very full bellies we hit our first stop of the day…Boeger Winery.applehill8

wineryI won’t bore you with the details…we tasted lots of wine, made some new friends, Dexter earned some doggie treats and we enjoyed the view above. I am so glad we decided to just “check it out.” We will definitely go back! Next on the trail was Kids Inc and then Rainbow Orchards.

We had a lot of fun roaming around both stops! Kids Inc. offered a beautiful nature trail through vineyards and apple orchards, as well as lots of fun activities for kids. If you have little ones I recommend stopping here before halloween. It looked like they had a really fun pumpkin patch and corn maze for the kiddos but was taken down right after. But my favorite part of Kids Inc. was their little bake shop. They serve all their apple treats straight from their kitchen! And when I say kitchen I mean they make your treat right in front of you IN THEIR KITCHEN! I wish I had taken a picture of this. You walk in and it just smells incredible…as you browse the menu you can see a handful of happy young girls making pies, rolling dough, and cutting apples. It kind of felt like I was in a fairytale or something. SUCH a cute spot! Then it was off to Rainbow Orchards! (BTW Dex was a super star all day…I was pretty worried about taking him but he loved it! If you want to bring your pets, each of our stops were dog friendly…Dex was in heaven!)

Rainbow Orchards was our last stop of the day. This is a very busy, tourist-y place. It’s known for their world famous apple cider donuts and they really are to die for…but we didn’t get to taste them this time…(the line was just a little too long for us…but definitely worth the wait if you’ve never tried them before!) I bought a carmel apple and Aaron sipped on some cider. We enjoyed our last stop sitting at a picnic table with our little man. It was the best day!
